Oct 30 = relay champs day, maybe not a huge consideration, but just saying!

Susquehanna Stumble XIII goat event is Nov 6 at Elk Neck.

As one of the few who have run all previous highlanders I hope the date works with my schedule.

I personally would love it on Veteran's weekend... I might be able to come then. Don't alter the dates for me though.

We're really hoping for Oct. 2 (the original plan), either of the later dates is considered to be a compromise, with known conflicts. Paul will be trying to deal with permits this weekend and we hope to know in a few days. Apparently the park was completely closed for a while, and is now partially open.

Yikes! I would hate to miss it but I will be out of the country on Nov 6.

Gack! Don't schedule it the same day as the relay! It would be bad to have it conflict with an A meet, but *really* bad to have it conflict with a (unique) championship event. I hate to think of the decision I'd have to make...
The 6 Nov date isn't great, either, conflicting with the Stumble, but it wouldn't be the first time.
Obviously it's ideal if the park allows the event to be held on 2 Oct, as planned.
Is it at all possible to hold the HH on West Point terrain?

We're really hoping for Harriman on Oct 2, and that's the direction that the planning is going. We've talked about Ringwood or Fahnestock if we have to move the event.

Latest word from the meet administration:
Also I visited the ranger at Lake Welch and picked up the paperwork to
start the permit. I talked to Janel (2nd in command after Dave) and she
does not see any issues why we should not be granted a permit. I will
request October 2nd with the 30th as our backup date.

So that's good news. I'll see if we can get registration up and running shortly.

As far as I can tell, this event is ON for October 2. Registration is imminent, just one more detail to sort out. Spread the word.

I believe none of last year's first three placegetters will be around, so an opening for a new winner on the men's side (or maybe the return of a former one, ken?)

Good news.
We'll be there.

Bad news.
Max's baby sitters will be doing the Highlander. (I kid you not)

Isn't Max getting old enough to be watching other people's kids by now?

Almost!

It's great they're tackling the HH. They did very well in the Billygoat.
We'll figure something else out. If anyone has any leads, feel free to let us know. :-)

It would be very helpful if in the future the Highlander organizers would publicize dates (or date possibilities) further in advance. As recently as August, I couldn't find any materials on attackpoint or the HVO site about the date for the Highlander. At least in New England, I am increasingly encountering the (pleasant) problem of an overscheduled calendar.

In the interest of avoiding conflicts with major events, scheduling those major events several months in advance would be a great help.

No question. This year's edition was organized in a scramble at the last minute by an ad hoc crew. Our alternative was to not hold it at all.

So, what about a date for next year's edition? :)

Having a date published well in advance would be great. A previous winner of the Highlander contacted me last month about when the race was because he wanted to race it again.

HH XVII, October 7 2012. I haven't checked with anybody else on this, but I didn't see any conflicts, so I put it on the calendar. Two weeks before the NAOC.

Thank you! I assume the corresponding AP event will be created promptly.

Is there a Lowlander alternative this year? (If not, I'll just bail out at some convenient aid station.)
