It's helpful to be able to check a list to confirm registration, but there are other benefits. One of my friends couldn't remember if he had registered for the sprint or Corn Maze-O. It's useful, as I mentioned, for checking out who else has registered. That can be a selling point for people considering attending the meet, since a rich field offers additional incentive for competing.
UNO's website has had a
list of registered competitors for the Boulderdash meet available since registration opened. That is one of the benefits of using one of the existing meet registration tools.
