Sharon sent me a detailed race report and photos, which I'll have posted to the RMOC web site shortly. I'll post a link when it's ready.

Sharon in a time capsule with other O/AP luminaries, '87.

I think Sharon has changed less than any of the others.

what Sharon said:

"I guess in orienteering if you keep trying long enough and hard enough it might ultimately be your turn some day to be the one with the fewest mistakes! "

Although I believe the wily Sharon has managed to pull off this trick more than once...

Charlie:
I never doubted her! She was talking about how fast and how skilled her competitors were before the race, but she was also very focused. We were all thrilled for her to win, but perhaps not really surprised, because she really seemed to have it in her.

Thanks Brooke and Charlie for bringing us such a prompt write-up. Sharon is truly an American legend, and I'd love to read her biography someday. As I would for several other orienteers.

Bob/J-J, please give us a caption to identify the others from Sharon's Christmas card. Inquiring minds want to know. :-)

bbrooke:
Yes, levitin, I was hoping for the same thing! I think I see Virginia Lehman and Swampfox, but I'm not sure about the others...
Jul 12, 2011 4:56 PM #
Charlie:
Here is the line-up, although one of them I am only about 95% sure:

Dan Meenehan, Spike, Eric Weyman, Swampfox, Bruce Wolfe
Gail, Virginia, Sharon, Heather Williams, Peggy.

I say 95%, because . . . is that really Spike? So young!

100% correct.

and suitable timing in that it's a return to France this summer (after 24 years). Begs the ? as to when might it be suitable to have a second WOC here...?
