Ratlum Speedy Goat Relay Meet Notes

The relay is for teams of two, with each member running two legs. There are two separate courses, each with forking, so four different maps. Each team will run all four legs, while each member will run one of each of the forked courses.

This has been a banner year for mountain laurel culture. The best routes will be on trails and it will be much faster and more pleasant if you can use a trail route. Sometimes you will need to go into the woods. Ideally not for long.

There is a large fenced clear cut area that is now about five years grown up to saplings and underbrush. The electric fence will be turned off, but you should not cross a fence line, and it wouldn’t help anyway. There are trails crossing the fenced area, and a gate at each place a trail crosses the fence. There are 5 gates in total. They will all be open. The trails have been trimmed enough that you will be able to get by without getting scratched. There is a smaller fenced area with no trails and no gates. It will not be a reasonable route choice. Go around it if you need to get to the other side.

We will have a mass start at 2pm, and an expected winning time of about an hour, depending on who shows up. There will be catch-up mass starts if runners lag far enough behind the leader, at the discretion of the meet director. These will be real catch-up mass starts. That is, the winner is the first team to the finish.

The map has been printed at 1:3000. Clues are on the map only. The map has no title, north arrow, legend or scale size. There are north-south lines 250 M apart.
