From a fall A-meet web page:
Maps will be color copies of laser printed OCAD maps.

1:15,000 - Red and Blue courses
Some people just don't get it.
Troll Cup (NEOC) will be on 1:15000 offset printed maps revised Spring 2002.
Older classes on Green and all Brown classes will be on 1:10000 laser printed maps.
All other classes W,Y,O, younger green, R,Bl will be on the 1:15000 from my understanding.
At least, that was the plan when I redid the map, but I'm not on the meet committee.
I have found that the physical quality of the map has a lot more to do with the stock than the printing method.
Using good waterproof stock in my HP CP1700 inkjet printer, I can produce a map that is tough to distinguish from an offset printed map unless you look mighty close. Of course, it won't be any cheaper than offset unless you're talking a pretty small run. Laser printing is more expensive if you're using quality paper. (Assuming a sufficiently large offset run).
The only reason I can see doing this is in an A-meet is to produce a small number of maps at a different scale. I think it's fine if a meet organizer wants to mix scales, but I'd still think that using the offset printed maps for the elite courses makes the most sense.
