(Or eat before swimming, for that matter.)
Guess it's a matter of what you're used to - I've been eating as soon as I get up since pretty much the age that I started doing my own breakfast, which was probably seven or eight. I also find it difficult to train if I haven't eaten anything. 45 minutes seems to be the magic number for the interval between eating and doing exercise, at least for me.
Kay used to get mad at me for not eating breakfast before races...but even on Sunday I couldn't bring myself to do so until I was driving out to the event.
I prefer not to eat for at least 90 minutes prior to a run. I have learnt from experience the consequences of ignoring this interval. Eating after rising is no problem, a skill gained from optimising the period in bed prior to leaving for work.
Waking up hungry is what used to get me out of bed. I find it difficult to concentrate on training if I don't eat enough as soon as I get up!
