You guys have a good group of people, lots of activities (O and running races) and social events, it really sounds like fun!

Oh, it sure is. The only downer is that Ali and Alex will only be around for one more academic year.

So we just have to plan more activities while they are here. :-)

Which reminds me, it's planting season, and among the things being planted is corn, and that means new corn mazes before long, so more orienteering. It might be a good idea to do planning a little more than the ten days in advance we did last year.

Let's do lots and lots of corn maze o's!!! I can't wait :)

It should be good ski-O training. Should we have two classes -- with map board and without map board?

I want to shoot for earlier in the season when the corn is greener/denser and cutting through can't be done by accident. (As if any of the illegal routes last year were by accident....)

We also need to find an empty parking lot with good pavement and set up one of Greg's interlocking-ovals ski-O courses (just for you guys, not for me). And then dinner afterwards, of course.

Those of us out here in the hinterlands look with envy at the fun you folks are having in the heart of the "O-zone." But if I may say so, many of these events seem to include a nice meal too.

Perhaps this is the aspect that OUSA needs to begin to include to promote O to the "unwashed?" Presenting O as a kind of "pain and pleasure" sport, that capitalizes on building bonds among the truly interesting folks that orienteer...over a civilized meal!

UMass parking lots on weekends might work, the faculty, not student ones... or is there somewhere totally abandoned?

Also psyched for corn-maze-o round 2, hope it's a good maze. Still have yet to run with the ski-o holder. I imagine much awkwardness...

Well, I wore my ski-o holder around the house the day it arrived and I found the experience quite lovely and not very awkward at all.

I just see myself walking into stuff and tripping a lot. I've worn mine in an AR on the bike portion, and when I had to get off the bike, it was hopeless, I couldn't walk to save my life. So maybe I just need to run =)

Corn maze will be part of Night/Relay champs this fall in St. Louis. Midwesterners should start training now, because, really, have you seen what passes for corn in New England?

The stuff we grow for eating here is actually worth eating, as opposed to cattle feed or making ethanol. But I think the maze stuff doesn't produce interesting food.
