Swampfox:
The usual tactic is to build a water tight dam upstream of the offending beaver dam, and dry them out. Once the beaver figure out they are in a desert situation, they will depart for wetter environs.

Foolproof.

Not much upstream in these parts. They are already about as upstream as it gets. I took the tractor down there this afternoon and pushed most of their new work out of the way. Of course they take the long view, and are probably out re-building it even better.

What's the deal, are they building on the north side of the bridge to increase the water in Littledown?

More on the west side, although they have done some substantial improvements to the south in Little Down and to the north to raise the level in Big Down as well. The bridge is in danger of becoming an island, however briefly on its way to becoming a historical artifact. At least the road on the west side is currently under water. Rained last night so I assume the little engineers were busy repairing the damage I did to their fortifications yesterday.
