Discussion: idea: orienteering bumper sticker?

How about this: a vinyl bumper sticker of a white & orange control kite, say 4"x4" (that's about 10cm x 10cm for our friends on the other side of the pond). I have searched around the 'net and not seen any such thing. Slap it on your car's bumper or rear window and then all your fellow "lost in the woods" types would know you're in the secret club, er, klubb!

If we had a hundred or so printed up do you think they'd sell?

I've seen something similar (I think they are about 3x3 inches, and they are red rather than orange.) They also have the word "orienteering" in small red letters at the bottom. I still have a few, which we use on the posts on our permanent courses. Have you checked the O' suppliers? Maybe look under "permanent course supplies" or "control markers" instead of under bumper stickers. Or maybe they sold out & are not made anymore. In which case, new ones would be a great idea.

If you want to do this yourself and make just one...

Step 1: Design the 3" x 3" bumper sticker in a high resolution format.

Step 2: Go to Cafepress to customize your own 3" x 5" sticker.

Step 3: Upload your high resolution image file.

Step 4: Order it and receive it.

Step 5: Cut off the excess 2" of sticker.

Bam. Done. Easy.

Alternative: Copy the design twice more such that you can fit three stickers in a 3" x 10" rectangle.

You can also buy bulk orders of stickers at Cafepress, too. Or you can go through your own local print shop, too. But if you just want one sticker...

A&E still sells a few bumper stickers here.

I bought some orange adhesive vinyl somewhere once (don't know if I have any left, I used most of it to make canoe-O controls out of milk jugs). White adhesive vinyl is very easy to find. A triangle of each of those and you're all set.

The sticker I was mentioning is here. It is approx. a 7.5 cm (3 inch) square. I don't know if anyone still sells them. Yes, the red triangle on top (instead of bottom) is technically wrong. Also, they are more red than orange (the image looks more orange than they really are). I think they came from Bermans years ago, but it could have been one of the other vendors.

A&E's permanent marker decals (some are reflective) -- you can trim so just the marker and word "orienteering" appear.

Isn't the "official" way to signify klubb membership to hang a tiny control flag from the rear view mirror?

I wound up ordering some of those permanent course stickers from A&E. Fits the bill just right!

I'm with AZ, as my car proudly sports one of these. But do orienteers have fuzzy dice or Mardi Gras beads that they prefer to display there instead? I would hope not, but I guess you never know...

Of course, in CT hanging a kite from your rearview mirror could get you a ticket. (Guess who took their written driving test this morning?!)
