This past Sunday there was a race in Auvergne down the road from WC Final terrain for next year. It's tough. Or, at least, I failed miserably to read the map properly. A photo (sorry, don't have a scanner) of the map might motivate ye to come do a training camp later in the year. Apparently it will get even more technical when the leaves are out. This place is fantastic.

Well no wonder you had trouble...the map is upside-down. :)

oh come on eddie, you of all people should have heard of relativity. In any case I did it that way expressly for Will H.

Neil, if you like maps with lots more green than yellow on them, then you are in for a sore disappointment should you ever make your way to Wyoming. Out this way if you want some green you have to pile up tumbleweeds and spray paint them green, and even then it only lasts until the next wind storm comes around.

Too bad that map isn't in Bay Area land. You really haven't lived until you've raced through those heavenly poison oak thickets so lovingly tended to by those west coasters.

On the other hand, some civilized mappers, when encountering some of that “yellow” in Laramie-land, might feel obliged to put in some vertical green slash rather than pretend those glorious expanses under the endless azure skies are equivalently passable to the rough at Merion or the like.

Those vertical green lines are abominations and mappers using them should be condemned to running in Extreme O' tops.

On a different note, those French have some cool terroir, non?

I don't see any evidence of terroir except that Neil seems to have imbibed some kind of mind-altering substances at various places around the course.

Also, for the map to be comprehensible to me you also have to have the water circulate the opposite direction in any sinkholes. And it does seem a waste of effort to optimize these things for people who have no hope of going to the WOC...
