I'm still annoyed with myself at having left the descriptions at home, particularly after all the work I went through to print separate ones. I really have to do stuff as soon as I think of it, which is why I left the maps and the float in the car after getting home from work yesterday, in case I forgot them.
I wouldn' t stress over it tRicky, your back-up of having the descriptions on the back of the map was an adequate pre-emptive solution. There were opportunities to turn the map over and memorise the next few descriptions without compromising route execution. Having said that, I memorised the first 3 and 5, 6, 7 and then it all got a bit much and I just ran to the centre of each circle and looked for it. Poor technique I know, but it actually worked today.
If you think turning the map over to read descriptions wasn't compromising route execution then you definitely weren't pushing hard enough.
Don't worry about it tRicky - it was the same for everyone, and I knew it before I started. It was my decision to run hard, not look atthe descriptions and assume I'd work it out when I was there. Given that I thought the circle for 15 was centred on the fence corner, I clearly pushed a bit too hard on the easy running legs for the few controls before (after blowing out the cobwebs at the start and mucking those up too)
Craig give the old guy a break.
Oh wait, you're older.
