The start of this year's Highlander is at the Silvermine area in the eastern part of Harriman State Park. Start is at 9.00 AM, walk to the start area (0.7k, no downhill) is at 8.40 AM.

The race includes three orienteering sections (9.3, 7.3 and 4.4k) with 25 controls, a trail run and the King/Queen of the Mountain with zero downhill. The view from the top of the mountain is great, I tested it on Sunday.

The total downhill is around 720m, depending on your smart route choices. There are trail options, they come at a price of running a little bit more.

Currently 67 runners are registered, with some more begging at the front door. It all depends on the bribes. I do like apricot pie.

Thanks!

I've been looking forward so much to the Highlander that I've started dreaming about it. In last night's dream, it had morphed into a rogaine and I was late for it.

Currently there seem to be some access problem to the HVO web site. Here is the link to the start list: http://home.aol.com/hvo2006/Registration

Thanks - the Registration page came up OK, but the race info link doesn't seem to be working.

Does anyone know what driving conditions are like in western NY? I'm hearing that Buffalo has closed their schools due to heavy snowfall.

You were too fast. I made the link before uploading. Try now.

I saw the pictures from Buffalo. Looks like you better leave early. Down here we have wonderful, crisp fall weather.

Thanks - got it. Now there are flood warnings for western NY with all the snow melting, so the Interstate should be fine. Looking forward to it! (The HH, that is. Not the flood.)

There is only snow actually near Buffalo (we had a fraction of an inch in Rochester). But in Buffalo they got up to 24 inches and there were travel restrictions in Genesee and Erie counties earlier this morning. It's now shifted further west and north, onto the Niagara peninsula, and seems to be mostly rain.

Sounds fine for tomorrow then - thanks for the info. There are parts of Ontario with bad driving condtions today too, mostly because the snow removal contracts haven't started yet. Hard to believe we were wearing T-shirts and shorts at NAOC a few days ago.
