I have posted maps, stories, and results from the Billygoats I set at Norwottuck in 1989 and 1990.

In re-reading some of the fine material Peter has kindly provided on 'goat history, I can not help but think that this year's Goats somewhere needed to be reminded that the art of the Billygoat lies not in suffering, but in *not* suffering!

I wonder if Peter will ever again reprise his role as chief Billygoat?

These stories should be required reading for future Head Goats.

Man, you guys have been orienteering *forever*! Why, Sharon was just a wee tot of 45. Interesting how many folks forked to the top in 90. Am I really destined to live with this orienteering thing for the rest of my life?

It was my first Billygoat, and I had a notion that forking to the top and climbing the lookout tower would be worth some style points. My naive point of view was in for a shock when I saw the writeup!

Forking to the top was a rockin' route choice if you skipped #12. Fifth place for J-J? Unbelievable! It was interesting, because this was the first forking/skipping ever, and nobody knew how it would turn out. Some folks figured that people would simply wait until they blew a control, and then just move on without wasting time. Others were sure that everybody would play chicken, and they'd all skip the last control (or maybe the next to last). The 1990 Billygoat had one of the most interesting forks ever in terms of how you could combine it with a skip.
