From Chuck Ferguson:

I know it is late, but we've just had a few openings in the National Park Service's Basic Search and Rescue (SAR) Course to be taught at Prince William Forest National Park, near Quantico, Virginia, this coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Cost is $50. You may have seen the course advertised in the last two issues of ONA. The instructor is Dan Pontbriand, head Ranger at Isle Royale National Park and the most experienced SAR instructor in the NPS.

If you are the SAR person for your club, or just interested as either a searcher, or a staff member (or commander) of an incident response team, and you want to enroll, please let me know. "Charles Ferguson"

Where: Prince William Forest National Park http://www.nps.gov/prwi/ in the Turkey Run Education Center (there is a map at the web site).

When: October 29-31. Starts at 0800 (8:00 a.m.) on Friday morning. Ends on Sunday afternoon, 31 October.

What: Bring your pen, some paper, your compass and your GPS unit

Weather: Looks like no more than a 10% chance of rain on any of the three days with cool night (40s) and warm days (60s)

Course Syllabus: I can get one out by tonight

There is also a requirement to complete three online courses from the FEMA website, but only takes about 30 minutes each and they are repetitive so after the first one, they get easier. Even if you are not coming to the course, consider doing the courses.
