I had an interesting experience running our local orienteering event today. I ran out of maps for the novice course and had to start recycling! Part of the reason was the appearance of a birthday party of 12 highly enthusiastic boys. Though all but two had never orienteered before, they were very excited and couldn't wait to start. After the race I discovered how they had amused themselves after their course.
From Kooyoora Wattle 2010

It seems that they weren't orienteering, but being Bear Grylls, a man whose celebrity to young boys seems to include the capacity to run and navigate through wilderness. Seems to me this is the first off track running navigator who is cool to the general public, the antithesis of our normal geeky image. Potential celebrity endorsement if the sport could find the money?

Perhaps you could send/email him this post. He might find it just amusing enough to do something with it.

If that's a shelter, then I'm glad it never rains at Kooyoora, and the boys need a better teacher than Bear Grylls (sic).

Well they could've been sheltering in a camel
