Swampfox:
The One Cowboy Relay took place under mostly pleasant conditions: beautiful skies, temps in the 60s, and windy. Though to give a clearer picture of the race conditions, the weather report would have to be shortened down to highlight the dominant factor: windy. In fact, during the pre-race briefing, the wind tore off the the door to the topper on the back of my truck, in what was an unmistakable case of "easy come, easy go". Only one control blew down--and it fell right to the ground where it was easy to spot--so in that respect we got off lightly, given the gale that was sweeping across the open prairie ridges of Dale Creek (site of the 1998? US Night Championships, and unused since then.)

Emil Backlund, interning at a local tech company for a year, won in commanding fashion and was disappointed only to not have any moose or badgers providing extra impetus to his race effort. While his time was very fine, we can not be sure that Greg Balter would not have challenged him.

The course consisted of 4 motala loops of roughly 1.5 kms each, followed by a final loop af about 2 kms, for total course distance of roughly 8 kms.

1 Emil Backlund 53:45

Oh, I'm sure Balter would have challenged him. Or, at least offended him.

on a good day I would be ~56 to 60 min on that, depending on climb, but with that wind and a para-glider, it could be different.

Thanks for the results, I am missing the events big time. I could only wonder,if I could fly with the winds what my time might only been. Watch out there will be a new cowboy in town soon. Dare I say he might challenge the best of the west.

If you were there with a para-glider, you would very quickly have been competing in Nebraska.

Thanks Swampfox
