Discussion: My Search Function Pt2

Dangerman:
Hi there,

Just one more thing about the search function. When I use the search function, it doesn't seem to search my log! For instance, a search for "dangerman 9:13" should bring up my post of 14 August 2010 but it doesn't.

Interestingly, the search function does find entries in other peoples logs. What have I done wrong to be banished from the search? ;-)

I don't have a good explanation for this. the search is powered by Google's regular index, and for some reason it hasn't picked up many pages from your log.

Another way to search just your own log is to use the search box that appears lower down on your main log page.

Ahhh, thank you! That makes it much easier to find old sessions. I never actually noticed that search box before...
Does Google not like me? Maybe it knows that WNM (the term I was searching for) is the acronym for the Whore No More. The Whore being a hugely steep un-rideable climb and the WNM being the zig zagging track bypassing it.

Google doesn't seem to like you at all - if I search for Juffy my log is the first result. If I search for Dangerman it only brings up forum threads. Maybe you mention the whore so often that SafeSearch has decided you're a bit disreputable.

Wow - I'm still missing when I turn the safe-search off. Maybe they know I drive a Mac?

I thought it was a Mazda, but either way you're a danger to innocent children. :)

Something really weird is happening when I search: it appears to be doubling my search terms. For example, if I type "curling" in the search box, it searches for "curling curling", and doesn't get many hits. Maybe it's something about my account or my computer?

Nope, not just you - it's doubling everything. Someone poke Ken, he's broken the interweb again. :)

hey that's pretty cool. I will check it out.

but really, why would you want just one curling?

I just didn't want to tip my hand as to what I was really searching for...

A thread that stays on topic?

Not even Google can find that.

Oooohh. That search your own log thing is handy - I've been looking for that for about 4 years... probably should have asked, huh?

Apparently something also doubles the log comments ;)

(There seems to be no ordinary logic involved since a search for "0.5 curling" won´t get just one whole curling either...)

This seems like it was a problem on the Google side of things, and it has now fixed itself.

A 'search own posts' function would be useful too - not that I want to read all my old posts, but as a quick way of finding topics I was/am interested in.

(Sorry to take it off topic, Juffy.)

Mmm. I also had never noticed the search log function before. It gets lost down there at the bottom. Maybe it would be better higher up the list, maybe above the weather report?

Try searching with your own name as one of the search terms, e.g. "simmo curling". It will likely turn up a few extra things, but it gets you close.
