well since we have to wait every other year to have more then 6 ( 3+ 3) races counting for WRE, why not award the NAOC title every year in the 3 disciplines for the Elie classes. and use those races as WRE races.they could be added to same A meets ( or use one event of the A meet for WRE ).
keep the NAOC for everyone every other year and during the uneven year ( 2007 ) have sprint anytime somewhere in US, medium dist along with some A meet in Canada, and the long during another A meet in US( preferably in the other side of the country ) and in 2009 reverse the roles ( 2 in Canada one in US )
the fee for the WRE race title could be used part from the actual fee of M 21 /F 21 runners maybe put that day 5 $ more.
the organizer of that A meet will still recover it's cost ( because all other classes will probably be 10-15 % bigger since all elites will bring family members ( or almost all.. i do not want to have Tundra's comments regarding familly carrier choices ).

any other thoughts

Perhaps the NA Sprint Series could be designated a regional event and thereby gain additional WRE days as well. Although the mass start format probably wouldn't work...

It would be cool to have the NA Champs every year too. What is the current reasoning for the bi-annual format?

Maybe someone even older than me knows the real reason but I suspect when it was first started (the mid-70's I think); it was simply seen as "too big" to try to do every year; or maybe there was not the demand/interest back then and no one has ever pushed for that to be changed.

An annual NAOC sounds like a fine idea. Maybe, to keep the number of events (and travel) manageable, the US and Canadian Champs should alternate serving as the North Americans.

Note that the COCs (and usually the Canadian Team Trials) are Sprint/Middle/Long format, and thus making all three events of the championships or Trails WREs makes one WRE of each format. The US has a Short Championship, which is pretty much a Middle. Perhaps a Sprint at the US Team Trials, or at one of the US Championships, could be a WRE to get a WRE in that format.

My feeling that addition of one title at some A meet will attract more good runners, and geographically spread will get more runners altogether ( maybe at sprint every other year we can have over 50- 60 people getting valuable WRE points ( and maybe 40-50 runners at the medium distance). imagine that !!

I`d love to have North Americans every year but would the attendance be as good?

If we hold the Canadian & US champs in other time`s of the year this will probobly affect participation to these events because one sorta has to pick & chose where to spend money on traveling. Therefore, if it does go on every year, it should probobly be held in conjonction with one of those championships depending where it is.

fair enough, championship or several A meets ,all over the map so different O-regions could increase their numbers as well

Thinking outside the wheaties box here but why not an annual NAOC in conjunction with the team trials. Call it an annual NA Elite Champs (M/F 21 only), gets all running in those categories only which gives more people WRE points.
Held in spring it gets a good turn out since it is THE championship to go to and it is the team trials. and award the BK cup too of course. Allows elites to spend summer in Europe racing.

Then make the US and CDN champs an annual challenge cup between Canada and US in ALL age group categories using a points system. (points collected in both sets of races)THereby encouraging age groupers to attend both national champs.

So this idea actual creates an annual NA Cup Challenge, and annual elite champs and would be fewer races than we currently have

This could repalce the NA CHamps starting in 2009 (after CNYO's hosting).

I believe NAOC was started as a major event to have on the non-WOC years back when WOC was held every other year on the odd years, so there is nothing precluding us from making an annual NAOC now.

I would be happy fo form a team and host the 2007 NAOC champs (medium distance or sprint or long distance ) . this in conjunction with another day A meet.
only for the elite classes ( for the NAOC ) but all courses available. and have 6 FREE entries fee to the WRE event( 3 for US and 3 for Canada for the ranked WRE runners, which they live far away ( at least 500km , U do the math for miles ).
at least that way we can have the extra WRE event.
oh yeah ..2007 spring

I'm fairly certain the IOF regional championships model is that each region only holds a championship every two years. I don't think they will award us additional WREs on an annual basis.
