Do we (Americans) use the term Viva? Or is that just a right side of the pond thing?

I think Americans use 'orals' or 'oral exams' instead. Or 'defending your thesis.'

Well, yes, but I was wondering if any Americans ever use viva, as some schools seem to use different terms than others. You know, like some of those fancy, shmancy east coast ones.

I have to say "Thesis Defence" here to get anyone to understand me! So certainly not at Yale!
