With the assistance of the Ontario Trillium Foundation and in partnership with the City of Hamilton (Ontario, Canada), McMaster University, and Hamilton Conservation Authority, Golden Horseshoe Orienteering (GHO) is making a major investment in two brand new programs:

i) AdventureRunningKids.ca (a kids adventure running program)
ii) AdventureRunning365.ca (a permanent course program)

Over the last several months GHO has hired several people to develop and introduce these new programs with out Adventure Running Kids program being especially successful. The goal for the next year is to expand these programs within the City of Hamilton and to strengthen our community partnerships while maintaining our commitment to athletic development and hosting quality races such as GLOF and the Salomon Dontgetlost.ca Adventure Running Series.

As such, Golden Horseshoe Orienteering has a job opening for a program co-ordinator starting late August/early September, 2010.
This is a one year, three-quarter time position time with the potential/option to expand it to a full-time position and also up to two years in length (hours are flexible).

The GHO program co-ordinator will be responsible to coordinate and run these two programs as well as assist with other GHO events and programs (including our schools program).

Details on this position and how to apply are coming soon, however, if you would like more information contact Hans Fransson (prez@dontgetlost.ca).

Further to yesterday's posting...

GHO's 'Adventure Running Kids' program, which we stared this spring, has become very successful. A big part of the coordinator's job is to run and oversee this program and it includes, for example:
- planning where, when and what to do each session
- recruit and instruct new coaches
- communicating with parents, sponsors, coaches, board of directors
- updating and maintaining the web site, distributing e-newsletters
- promoting the program to recruit more participants and sponsors
- leading the potential establishment of the program in other areas within and outside of Hamilton

Adventure Running 365 is our name for our permanent orienteering courses. This part of the coordinator's job involves, for example:
- setting up permanent courses
- promoting the program to recruit more participants and sponsors
- communicating with sponsors, land owners, board of directors
- updating and maintaining the web site
- leading the establishment of the program to other areas

The successful applicant will need to have good organizational skills, since he or she, for example, will have to work with several programs simultaneously, and be a good communicator, both orally and in written.

Other components of the coordinator's job is to assist GHO members with events and other club activities, assist sports camps and other groups that are interested in including an adventure running component in their program, as well as contacting schools to offer support to teachers interested in the sport.

GHO currently has several people working part time for the club to help develop, deliver and market our new programs. The goal of this advertised position is to re-organize the part time jobs to (as mentioned above) offer a one year, three-quarter time position time with the potential/option to expand it to a full-time position and also up to two years in length. So this position isn't really new or old ;-) but rather is a re-organization of our existing job offerings. More details still to come.

Interested applicants should send a resume including a list of references to Hans Fransson (prez@dontgetlost.ca). We will start to review applicants in mid June until the position is filled.

Given recent interest to expand Golden Horseshoe Orienteering's recently launched Adventure Running Kids and Adventure Running 365 programs this new job position with GHO now represents a full time career opportunity for an individual with the drive, organizational skills and commitment to develop these programs.
