Registration is now open for the largest (and longest) orienteering event in Ontario this spring - the Salomon Dontgetlost.ca Giant's Rib Raid.

Teams of three can choose between two courses. Our 25K Raid or a Half Raid (Enduro) which is ~12K. The race will take place in the Milton area in some of southern Ontario's best terrain and this year will feature full orienteering maps for all but one (small) section of the Raid course.

This year's Raid course is once again designed by Mark Adams and Mike Waddington and features 2K of trail running, 3K of road running and a whopping 20K of orienteering. The race will finish with a matrix. This is a section of the race where team members can split up and take checkpoints in any order. There will also be a section of the race we call VertiGHO (aka micro Orienteering) a bit of line orienteering and some ultra long distance route choices to make the running and navigation challenge complete.

That was my first Don't Get Lost event. It was well worth the trip down from Ottawa and the very sore feet courtesy of the rocky 'giant's rib'.
Mark and the hammer produced an event very high in quality route choices and navigation. That is not always a feature of adventure races. Needless to say it was the best course yet for me but I'll bet it was for many of the veteran participants.
Thank you to the organizers, their (family of) volunteers to the sponsors and to the Halton County Inn, the host venue.
Finally thanks to my teammates, Sebastian and Peter for letting me tag along.
