exactly my question! After this weekend of racing and having )-shoes too small for me I need to get a new pair before my next major race!

JenMac, you should drop Fast Trax in Edmonton an email. They seem to have taken down their Orienteering section, but I think Fast Trax is still going to have some O gear. If they're getting out of it, you'll get a good deal on shoes.

I went with this retailer when I purchased my Inov-8 Mudclaw 330 O. No bargains except the free shipping, but super fast, and had all of the sizes available. And the dog tie in may be a bonus for some.

Though I have always thought of myself as having super wide feet, and the inov-8 seems to run narrow, I have found them to be very acceptable after doing a little taping to ward off heel blisters.

I also bought my inov-8 shoes from the same retailer as vmeyer. Free shipping was a plus, and when I ordered the wrong size they were really good on the phone about mailing me the correct size before I returned the previous pair so that I would have them in time to race.

Inov-8 also has a couple new studded O shoes coming out in April - ORoc - 280, 340 & 350 I believe. Not sure how quickly they'll hit the online retailers, but Inov-8 dealers should be able to get them once they land.

Christina - as Team Inov-8's orienteer here in the states - have you managed to get a look at the upcoming models at all? Figured maybe it would be a perk...

I just got some Inov-8 Mudroc 290s from Wiggle. Free shipping from UK, good price (fluctuates daily with the exchange), only downside was 2 weeks to delivery, which was no big deal as it was winter. :)

I wanted to relate a poor experience with theshoemart.com though. They had the 290s for 3 dollars cheaper than wiggle, with free shipping, so I figured they'd get here faster. 'Usually ships in 1-2 business days' listed when you 'Add to Cart', which it still says, btw. I bought and paid for them, then a few days later (after dealing with their broken email systems) get a 'Backordered until 3/24' email (this was in mid-January).

They were expedient with refunding my money in full when I ranted a bit, but it was a frustrating bait-and-switchish kind of deal, and I've seen a couple of other similar stories about them ... after the fact of course.

I agree with vmeyer about wide feet/don't like tight shoes ... I think I'm a convert! These shoes are downright narrow, but very comfortably hold all but my toes in a firm, correctly-padded grip. Out of the box to 2 x 1.25hr sessions on snow/ice/rock, full speed downhill on snow and ice -- no problems, wiggling, chafing, etc. Fit & finish are superb. I'm very impressed so far. Definitely NOT for the 24-hour rogaine for sole thickness/padding design (like an O-shoe in that regard).

Alison, you can buy inov-8 shoes online at Zappos or order from Scarborough Orienteering. There are also other retailers in Canada and the US.

I see someone's hard at work. ;)

Cristina, I think you should consider posting a disclaimer that you are sponsored if you are going to post even very mild advertising like that. (It was so mild that I didn't object when I first read it, but still...)

this store ships internationally

What is great about this store is that they sell the great VJ Supras, so i´d recommend this one.

I wonder if Cristina misspelled Gale's name to get some revenge for everyone misspelling hers...

Okay, thread sterilized.

Haha, now it just looks ridiculous. Sorry to pick on you, I'm just messing around!

Aww, I only meant it in fun! I thought you were being exceedingly fair by providing links to competitors' products!

I'm just in a pissy mood, so I figured it was better for me to just piss off than to piss anyone else off. ;-)

Interestingly, Amazon seems to have the full line of Inov-8 shoes, 270's are on sale.

I've been eyeing up salomons speedcross 2. Nice looking tread, lightweight, some pronation control. Check em out

I love Salomon Speedcross. The rubber compound is very soft so keep them off roads.

So do people wear traditional o-shoes for orienteering? Or do more people wear traditional trail shoes?

So Cristina's useful information and links get deleted because someone might get offended at something vaguely advertising-like.

How does that make this thread useful? How does that promote sharing of information?

I don't care whether or not she's sponsored by one of the several shoe vendors she mentioned. The links were useful and now they're gone. Yay for progress.

maybe, if we ask nicely, she can be persuaded to repost and we can promise not to riposte this time, and all the various comments will act as the desired disclaimer....everyone wins. how bout it? Please?
Feb 25, 2010 12:32 PM #
feet:
I asked for a disclaimer that Cristina was sponsored, not a removal of the link. If she wants to take that, illogically, as a request to remove the entire post, that's not my problem. So, I won't promise not to riposte; in fact, I'll promise to riposte.

Allison, you might want to contact Duane Adams at HOC. He told me of a supplier he uses, and I can't find the info. But as coach of a large group of students he has to be cost conscious, yet know that what the kids are putting on their feet is a reliable product.
