Looks like a WOC fantasy league. Create your team before saturday's middle qualifier.

If I'm worth $3.7M then Tero is a bargain at $6.8M

Jul 26, 2006 2:29 AM #
jfredrickson:
I'll buy Sime at any price.
Jul 26, 2006 2:21 PM #
Timato:
I can't help but notice that team Emma's Lönnlöven has no Waddington's on it. Hammer, how can you let her get away with this? :)
Jul 26, 2006 2:48 PM #
Hammer:
Tim, she wanted to pick me but I told her I wasn't worth the $3.7M but that Pither was a bargain at $2M.

Middle qualifiers should be announced soon. make sure your chosen team members are running the middle qual.
see who PG has chosen for his "young and beautiful" team.
Jul 28, 2006 5:39 PM #
PG:
Yeah, I had to do a little research to make sure my initial team were all running the middle. And then I have to find a way to make changes tomorrow for the long Q on Sunday when I'm visiting my mom....

I've got Pavlina on my initial team, so it surely is young and beautiful, right Joe?
Jul 28, 2006 6:00 PM #
Joe:
Team looks good! as does swampfox's.
Jul 28, 2006 6:10 PM #
PG:
Swampfox, of course, is off in his usual alternative universe, and has chosen a team, half of which isn't even running in the middle....
Jul 28, 2006 6:36 PM #
Swampfox:
I didn't check any runner statistics either. ; ) But why pick on me, when you can go after Young John F. instead? Just look at him--he's picked more maple leafs than stars and bars runners! What's up with that???
Jul 28, 2006 6:43 PM #
jfredrickson:
I just dropped one of my maple leafs after discovering Sandy is injured. How do you go about figuring out who is running which race (aside from the US team whose info has been posted on here)?
Jul 28, 2006 6:47 PM #
PG:
Start lists for the middle Q are posted. For thinking about later events, you can check various federation websites.

I don't think the US team has any "Stars and Bars" runners. (Although that flag is often flown in the vicinity of Team Trials, despite Missouri's decision to stick with the Union). Now "Stars and Stripes", that would be different.
Jul 28, 2006 6:53 PM #
vmeyer:
Any other inside information to impart, besides Sandy being injured?
Jul 28, 2006 6:58 PM #
cii00me9:
Two of the very best Swedish runners at the moment are relatively cheap> Kajsa Nilsson and David Andersson. Simone is way to expensive if you ask me, especially for the middle which is her weakest distance.
Jul 28, 2006 7:04 PM #
Swampfox:
Somebody (Eric B.) needs to brush up on their Neil Young albums!

Jul 28, 2006 7:16 PM #
cii00me9:
Norwegian Anders Nordberg is also a bargain for the middle qual.

Joe:
anyone getting up at 4am EST to follow on-line?
Jul 28, 2006 7:51 PM #
cii00me9:
Joe>Of course!!! I'll follow every single minute live. Especially since the organizers promise live video, GPS-tracking etc.
Jul 28, 2006 7:57 PM #
vmeyer:
Well, I have been wide awake at 4 AM every other day this week, so at least this will give me something interesting to do.
Jul 28, 2006 8:44 PM #
Nev-Monster:
4am EST is 2am Edmonton and since I'll probably be getting home from celebrating my birthday, I might follow along.
A friend of mine used to refer to Neil Diamond as the only Neil that matters.

No GPS tracking in the quals - only in the finals I'm afraid. We tried on the "man-bras" that hold the GPS tracking units at the technical model today. They were a little big on The Cheese and I, but fit Eric ok. The officials suggested I try on a "women's version", which was so tight I could barely take a breath! Are guys really that much bigger in circumference at the chest than gals? Its counter-intuitive to me. Incidentally, I had a little trouble getting into the thing...I don't recall ever trying one on before :)
Jul 28, 2006 9:18 PM #
Cristina:
The man-bras are simply fabulous. James did a particularly fine job of modeling one.
Jul 28, 2006 9:26 PM #
eddie:
The Coach suggested we do some "stuffing" to help with the fit.

Regarding the start list, did you see who Tero has to start with? I think he's in trouble.
Jul 28, 2006 9:52 PM #
jeffw:
With all the relevant training that Boris has been doing, Tero should be relieved that he is in a different heat.
Jul 29, 2006 6:08 PM #
cii00me9:
Am I the only one who finds the scoring extremely strange? Most of the teams now ahead of me in value have a total team value that is much higher than the total value of the runners + cash.

Very irritating also that I was severly punished for having a runner that miss punched.... a case about which there was nothing written in the rules!
Jul 29, 2006 6:12 PM #
jeffw:
The organizers are rescoring everyone because they inadvertantly pointed at the relay scoring instead of the qualifier scoring.
Jul 29, 2006 6:41 PM #
cii00me9:
OK, thanks for letting me know, but why haven't they written anything about this on the web page to calm down people like me. I just sent them an angry email.

Lots of Seinfeld fans, I see.
Jul 30, 2006 12:44 AM #

If any of you put in changes to your team for the long, check to see if they are still there. They had to restore the data from a backup, so your team may have reverted back to your middle distance choices.
Jul 30, 2006 1:02 AM #
smittyo:
I think I was on while they were doing this. I checked my score and it was about half way down the list. Then I changed my team for the long. Then I noticed I moved up the list quite a bit and couldn't figure out why. Then I looked at my team and it was still the old one. It's nice to know I wasn't just going crazy!
Jul 30, 2006 2:01 AM #
Tundra/Desert:
The two people who currently show on top certainly could not have gotten the scores that they got (a $600k+ increase means they must have picked all six winners, which would have cost them more than $33M). Sorry Piller!
Jul 30, 2006 2:25 AM #
Bender:
Yeah, I don't really understand it. I had initially picked a team with one runner for each discipline that met the upper limit, only to find myself in 13th this morning. However, Mike Smith brought it to my attention that I could rotate runners and once I made my switches for the long I ended up in 1st? No idea, but my new roster seems to still be selected. I'll see what happens tomorrow.
Jul 30, 2006 4:13 AM #
jfredrickson:
Hmm... I wish I had known you could change your team after each race.
Jul 30, 2006 2:39 PM #
IF only:
I guess I'm too late to get in on the manager action here, but my advice to those competitive managers out there is to put your $ into the top Women, and a top coach (Fin?). Far more chance of coming through when there are only half as many competitive runners as in the mens races. Women rule:-)
My picks also include affordable Canucks who can sprint: Go Patrick and Will
Jul 30, 2006 3:57 PM #
wilsmith:
I think you'll have to switch to Mike S or Mike W - this affordable Canuck won't be starting in the sprint....
Jul 30, 2006 5:57 PM #
smittyo:
It looks like they decided to reset scores again to the end of round 1 and cancel round 2 since enough people didn't get a chance to update their teams after this. Bummer, I think I had a much better strategy for round 2 and was looking forward to seeing my score. The sprint will be harder since you can't change your team between the qualifiers and finals.
Jul 30, 2006 7:47 PM #
Bender:
Somehow new people were also entered into the game between Round 1 and the cancellation of Round 2, as I dropped from 13th to 28th? A lot of ground to make up and another round gone; a bit of an annoyance now that I've got a grasp on the strategy of the game.
Jul 30, 2006 9:36 PM #
wilsmith:
Wow - not that I'm in contention, but with the cancellation of round 2 I avoided taking the $50,000 penalty for having one of my runners mispunch. Anyway, on with the show.
Jul 30, 2006 9:52 PM #
vmeyer:
Wow, I didn't think of that, Wil! I had two mispunch in Round 2, so, I guess I am pretty happy too!
Jul 30, 2006 10:51 PM #
Joe:
I can't believe they threw out todays races. I had a pretty good lineup too.
Aug 1, 2006 2:53 AM #
cii00me9:
It was a pretty obvious decision to cancel round 2 since basically no O-Managers in Europe had the chance to change their teams. It would have been extremely unfair to count it.
In principle I agree with Ian's advice, but I still think some men are dominant enough to be worth paying for (e.g. Tero on Middle, Emil W on sprint and Jani L on long). By the way Ian, it's never too late to enter the game. To have some chance to reach a good total score, however, I'd recommend joining before the sprints.

cii00me9:
It seems like the game constructors have made another big mistake...
If I am not wrong, no one has been able to spend the earned "team bonus," which seems to have been placed in "cash." Moreover, this bonus, disappears completely from your record as soon as you change any runners in your team. I really hope they will be able to correct this without cancelling the sprint round altogether.

I see that a little Waddington is in the top 10!

She hung on for 15th overall (final results are up).
