Happy to finally be able to post and fully credit Eddie for the basemap he made of Mississippi Palisades for our Snowgaine! The accuracy of the processed lidar contours and inferred features was astounding. Though extremely hilly, we hope to have the area fieldchecked for a future event.
Only one team swept the course (Justin, Jason & Andrei of MNOC) in the 6 hour time limit.

For sure he is... though when I read the title of the thread quickly I thought it was Eddie's Basement... and I thought he had finally renovated his basement into the rave club that he's been talking about. I'd love to see photos of the fog machines, strobe lights and bass speakers that rattle your ribcage. That map is pretty too though :)

One team swept the course with moments to spare! Sounds like perfect course setting to me. Well done Joe.

That is an attractive looking map.

What a brutal course! Only quads of steel need apply. How much climbing was in the optimal route? Was that 51 controls? And each possible leg seems to involve from 20 to 50 metres of climb. Would 1000 metres of climb be a reasonable estimate? If so good on the folks from flat old Minnesota.

Competitors were explicitly allowed to enter the out-of-bounds areas (private farms) but most good routes only enter these areas briefly on the edges.
By my figuring, the optimal route is ~24k (straight line) but most were smart enough to use "around" routes on roads, trails & ridge tops to avoid a lot of climb (where possible).

WEDALI course was 23.1 KM (310-JR-341-338-103-317-311-127-112-325-334-107-331-314-111-321-312-320-121-330-337-309-313-125-318-333-WI-339-327-307-323-700-340-65-326-335-315-263-324-316-322-319-336-102-RR-CS-32-56)

After the race I estimated distance (with a map wheel) along our route to be ~30km (18mi). I unfortunately forgot my Garmin at home, so I guess we won't know for sure. Definitely an awesome course though - we weren't sure if we would be able to pull off the full sweep until the last 2-3 controls. Pretty perfect weather as well. Great map and event all around - Thanks to CAOC for putting it on!
