OK...these seem to be somewhat different from USOF Rankings. Can someone tell me what Scores really are, and why they are important?

From the blog, it appears the scores are based upon WinSplits data exclusively....so who is included? All A-meet competitors? B&C meets on WinSplits? Canadians? Europeans? Is a different age-grouping used than for the USOF Rankings? Certain people appear in different catagories in the Scores.

Incidentally your F50+ first and second place women are the same person: Natalia Deconescu of CAOC...Natalia married in 2009.

Natalia's marriage affords us a great opportunity to do an event study. Now we can start to assess the impact of marriage on orienteering performance. :)

@chitownclark: In addition to Cristina's links. About data.

ALL (I could find) USA ans Canada Events are included. and ALL runners taking part in them are counted - no exceptions.

No Winsplits exclusivity. WinSplits is the only open electronic (formatted) source of Information I found.
It is not the most convenient, but it provuded currently the bulk.

Age classes: Real age is used for class determination.

I would rather prefer to work with CSV SportIdent files, but people just do not want to share them , yet?
Thanks to Valerie I at least have all A-meets, including not uploaded to WinSplits ( like recent GNC )

If you have data for the event not mentioned there and would like it to be analyzed using O-scores engine - send me CSV SportIdent file and It will be there in couple of days.

My goal was and IS small clubs and beginners, who could have their rating without visiting 4 A-meets a year, but rather 4 local events.
Feet will tell you (in couple of months, independently) how accurate the system is. But better see for yourself :)

Incidentally your F50+ first and second place women are the same person:
Well, this is sign of stability! I will correct the rankings soon.

Enjoy.

They aren't important. They are for additional statistical analysis that krechet likes to do.

It's just like NCAA basketball. You've got your Associated Press poll, your ESPN/Coaches poll, your RPI, Sagarin's RPI, Pomeroy's efficiency stats, the list goes on and on and on. Are any of those really important? No. But if you like to compare (and bet money on) things, they might be fun for you.

Scandinavians reading this might not completely understand it as a joke, since at WOC 2001 in Finland, you could place bets on the results of all the championship races, at government-sponsored gambling centers. I clearly recall making a tidy profit betting on Hanne Staff to win the short.
