You can send some over here - still very hot and dry no rain since November and talk of records being broken

Didn't it snow at Perth airport in August 2001 the week before the Aust Champs rogaine at Crossman? We saw so many lambs dead of exposure in the paddocks while we were rogaining. (Richard, were you still in Canada then?)

I have not heard that before, yes we wre still in Canada in 2001 - most years there is some snow on the Stirling range and I recall some pictures of snow in Kojanup one year

Are you definitely thinking of 2001? I can't find any reference to significant snow in WA in August 2001 (and the lowest maximum temperature at a WA station that month was 9.0 at Manjimup, which would support snow on the Stirlings but not anywhere else), but there was quite widespread snow on 22 August 2003 (http://www.bom.gov.au/inside/services_policy/publi...) - although not at Perth itself.

Rumoured but not recorded? Hail in disguise? Don't remember now how I heard of it, so I could be mistaken - but there had certainly been some horrible weather the week before the 2001 rogaine.

I cannot recall any snow here other than several times on the Stirlings and one cold winter where there was snow near Katanning or thereabouts. Sheep did indeed suffer that year so that might be what you're thinking. Certainly no snow I can recall in the last 20years within 200km of Perth.

I think you have to go back to 1956 for the last time there was snow of any consequence close to Perth.
