I heard this song from an orienteering video (figures) and thought this song was sooo awesome!!! Although, the only thing that I can find about the band is that I think it's Norwegian but I'm not sure because I don't speak whatever language these websites were written in...
this is the song...

Oh boy, another college a-cappella group breaking it down online. Too bad there was no crazy video to go along with this one.

That's a pretty sweet find though Emily. I wish I could have understand more of the words though.

The website is for the Orienteering club at NTNUI, one of the top engineering schools in Norway. It is the school that most of the best Norwegian Juniors end up at, and they usually have one of the best teams in the world at the top relays despite the fact that they only keep their members for about 4 years.

The group singing is probably one of the school's a-cappella groups (most colleges have several). A-cappella is just basically a small group of singers that performs without any accompanying instruments, and often they use their voices to provide rhythmic or any other kind of accompaniment.

Alison, you can download the song by right-clicking on the link and selecting "Download linked file", or "Save Target As", or something like that...

My mom and I have figured out most of the words by slowing it down a lot...

Orienteering is my life...
Orienteering cuts to my like a knife
Out in the parks, out in the woods
Especially out in the neighbourhoods
Orienteering Orienteering... for a long time
Orienteering is my life, i do it with my daughter and my son and my wife
I love the happy feeling when I'm (ramming, tracking, jumping???) a post
that's the only feeling that I'm loving the most
Orienteering Orienteering Orienteering is my life...
I've got this feeling, a feeling toooo be freeeee, somebody run with me
It's my life, orienteering is my life... ( with the person singing " Oooooooooh, it's my life. Come run with me" in the background with some wailing too...

I think that that' s most of the words anyways. I first heard it from this orienteer's website http://www.vimeo.com/clip:37100 and it's the oldest clip. I think it's pretty cool!!! The orienteering club group thingmawebsite does make sense though I couldn't really figure it out because it was in Norwegian. Thanx!!!

I happen to know and have the original songs the song - "orienteering is my life" - is based on.

Main theme is based on song by Dr. Alban "It's my life". Believe it or not I have seen Dr. Alban performing live this particular song. Dr. Alban was semi-popular in Europe in about 1990, 1991. I used to have his CD. I lost possession of the CD due to divorce however I have MP3 - audio version and video version - of "It's my life" and few other songs.

At one point in the song "Orienteering is my life" there was sampling of another popular song by DJ Bobo "Somebody dancing with me". I have not seen DJ Bobo live but I do enjoy his music as well - I have few MP3s of his song in audio and video versions.

Both artists - Dr. Alban and DJ Bobo - produced/produce dance music.

That's helpful information... although I've never ever heard of Dr. Alban and DJ Bobo, but from the song, they make pretty cool music!!!

That's a pretty interesting song... never heard anything like it before, anyway. LOL

There's an Orienteering song by Chumbawumba but I've still never been able to actually listen to a copy... I did post about it's existence at some point before.

Though a media search did turn up copies of this episode of 'Pokemon Orienteering'. Sounds kind of extreme to me :-D

Most of the songs linked by Niels-Peter (and on the Alternativet site) are actually Swedish - although some of them may be sung in English(?). The only exception being 'Springcup' (Danish) and of course the NTNUI song...

The remix is hilarious, pretty cool. I knew they were singing in some language that I sure didn't understand. But they do sound different from what I'm used to.

I can finish the remix if anyone's looking for some really hip bar mitzvah or prom tunes.

The remix is pretty cool :-D I'd love to know what the lyrics are to that one line though... it really does sound like "ramming a post" which doesn't seem to me like it would create happy feelings. At least, not when taken literally.
