With the assistance of the Ontario Trillium Foundation and in partnership with the City of Hamilton, McMaster University, and Hamilton Conservation Authority, Golden Horseshoe Orienteering (GHO) is making a major investment in an adventure running kids program, school kids program, and permanent courses. Although the main goal for GHO is to recruit, coach, develop and support the orienteers and adventure runners of tomorrow and to raise awareness and promote orienteering and adventure running among the public, GHO is also looking into developing programs and support for orienteers at the national and provincial level. The possibility of using McMaster's facilities is included in the preliminary plan of such an athlete development program. Developing permanent courses to bring the sport to the Hamilton community is also high priority of GHO over the next few years.

To develop these programs, GHO is offering two half-time jobs (20 hours per week) for each of the next two years. We are looking for both a program coordinator and a cartographer (or combine the two jobs into a full time position). The job position(s) would start in early January, 2010. Details on these positions and how to apply are coming soon, however, if you would like more information contact Hans Fransson (prez@dontgetlost.ca).

The new Adventure Running Kids program will bring together kids that enjoy orienteering running, trail running, cross country running and snowshoe running in a fun training and racing group. Together with our program co-ordinator, GHO coaches have experience in international orienteering, trail running, adventure racing and are leaders in international sport science and nutrition. GHO is one of the largest orienteering clubs in Canada and has hosted many international orienteering races over the last 40 years. GHO is the host club of the Salomon Dontgetlost.ca Adventure Running Series - Canada's original and largest adventure running events. With over 20 forest maps within city limits, adventure running is on Hamilton's doorstep. Hamilton offers an excellent training opportunity for trail runners, adventure runners and orienteers alike.

Non-Canadians with a valid 'working holiday visa' will also be considered for these positions. Salary will be discussed during the interview process.

@Coach: yes we also believe that this is a dream job! GHO is especially excited about our partnership with McMaster University.

It is possible to make either of the full year part-time position a full time job for part of the year. I think that makes sense. :-)

ie., the positions have very flexible hours.

Apply today!
