Discussion: SculptureO by the Sea - Bondi

With more than 110 sculptures located along the 2km Sydney coastal walk from Bondi to Tamarama, and a map of the area, "Sculpture by the Sea" is an opportunity for a mega-orienteering course in fantastic surroundings, with no extra work involved in actually putting out the controls. There is also no pressure to run, or even to feel obliged to keep moving all of the time - just stop and take in the view. The photos below show some of the possible control sites, but if you do want to do the course here are the basic rules:
1 - Start wherever you want
2 - Go to the controls in whatever order you feel like.
3 - Finish wherever you want.
4 - Enjoy yourself. . .
and remember that the exhibition closes on 15th November

A catalogue and map is available with alternative control descriptions, but be warned that some of them are in "art-speak" and are a challenge to read with a straight face.

We must get along to this event one of these years. Next weekend is out due to Rogaine so can't see me getting there now this year unless I chuck a sickie or take LSL this week. Your photos look great and it must be stunning to see these on site, especially on a nice day.

BTW: Interestingly I saw the photo of the boy (a sculpture) that has been taken down in one of the Daily newspapers last week. (It may have been waist up, can't remember). Seems in this anti Bill Henson-esque era, you have to be very careful what you post.

We went there yesterday morning (quite early thanks to being woken by some idiot jumping on our motel room roof at 5:45am) but there were still many hundreds of people out and about. This was clearly a frustration for some of the many morning joggers, annoyed at having their space invaded, so running an event might be a bit chaotic.

Adding the control flags would be a definite improvement to some of the sculptures, although most were excellent!

Golfer - joggers were in equal numbers to dog walkers over the 2 days we were there. I just cannot believe there are so many dogs in Sydney.
We stayed in Bondi to take advantage of the proximity and if it had been clearer the possibility of good sunset/sunrise shots. best range of sculptures for at least 5 years. Really good stuff and I got a few ideas.
Leepback - agree about photo. Disappointed that the irony of the control flag beside Little Boy Lost wasn't appreciated.

Going at 0500 Wednesday before work.

Looking forward to it. Thinking of parking at Bronte or is Bondi a better option.

Golfer? The footpath warriors were upset? Not the only path with that element however that path seems to attract some special ones - 1400 on a Sunday afternoon in November one year complaining and shoulder brushing/charging others on the path as the path was being used by others - no it is not lane one of your own private 400m athletic oval it is public place.

southerncross, Marks Park in the middle might be a good spot because you can warm up/cool down in the area with the most sculptures ( but going for a swim involves a high dive)

southerncross, we parked in Bronte and did an up and back walk. One hour parking restrictions apply after 8:00am (I think) but if you are there at 0500 you should be fine.

Rockman, I'm impressed by the work you've done on your photo gallery - even added the reversed reflection of the flag on #69 (which was one of our favourites). You must have plenty of spare time:-)

ta golfer you answered the question that came up in a discussion with a friend I am meeting there. Used to be familiar with the area when renting and before children! Cheers

Golfer - did you and Deb manage to see the displays in the Bondi Pav and the Tamarama Surf House? The maquettes are great - would make a lovely present for someone.
