An opportunity you won't want to miss!
One hour presentation titled "If you can dream it, you can do it" by World Champion Thierry Gueorgiou.
Saturday at Carleton University, 6pm (following the sprint)
Having met Thierry at the Harriman Training Camp, I can say that this will be a great presentation. If you can make it you will find it well worthwhile...and the orienteering will be excellent as well.
Would Thierry permit it to be videotaped? If so and if possible, could you arrange it? This potentially sounds like something I'd love to use for future junior training camps etc. Possibly copies of the tape / dvd could be sold as a fundraiser for Canadian Team or Junior Team.
Wish I could be there but I'm committed to taking juniors to a local competition on the 18th.
Thierry is allowing it to be filmed.
We'll be filming the whole thing and will figure out after about how best to get it out to everyone who wants access to it.
There is also a powerpoint and some footage that go with the presentation so hopefully we can get those from him as well.
Thanks Jeff for setting this all up.
Tero's website has something that is titled the same. I am sure it will be much better in person.

Yes, thanks Jeff. As far as dissemination goes, I think google video lacks the 10 minute restriction of youtube.
>I am sure it will be much better in person.
indeed it was very very good. Thanks to Jeff for setting this up. Can you post info where people might be able to get a hold of the video when time permits.
Thanks to Ottawa OC for a great weekend of orienteering in the Nation's Capital. Tero's talk was great but the setting of the sprint was also very exciting - especially when Emily got a louder cheer than Thierry.
I'll be posting a summary of Tero's week in Ontario very shortly.
Yes, thanks to Jeff and Ottawa OC for a fun, inspirational and very well-organized weekend!
Mama Childs here. Tero's presentation was the best orienteering presentation I've ever been to. It told the story of how he began to dream of becoming a world champion at a very young age (complete with some unique photos and film footage of his early experiences and former top orienteers' encouraging words to him) and how he worked for years to make his dream come true. He describes how his technique changed over time, how his failures led to his successes, and the importance of humility in staying at the top of your game. It was very inspirational, even for an F-55-60. Every orienteer who wants to improve should see this. I only wish more people would have been able to see him and meet him. He was there for anyone who wanted to talk to him. Same for teammates/friends Francois, Mattieu, and Jean Baptiste. All four added a lot to make the Ottawa orienteering weekend a very special one. Thanks to OOC, Mike Waddington, Jeff Teutch and any others who helped to make this happen.
worldofo.com has picked up this story (on front page news item).
I posted some notes I took on Thierry's presentation in the Junior group
here
I like this: "I also play quite a lot the videogame Catching features which is pretty close to reality."
The best publicity and advertisement you can ask for, for Catching features :)
Was the video of Thierry's presentation ever publicized? Was it video taped?
It was filmed and, assuming Thierry allows it to be published online it will be shortly. Sorry for the delay - midterms got in the way
Good reference to it all might be "Suunnistus ja Ajattelu"? by Pekka Nikulainen 1994, mentioned here

And 1995 published "Suunnistustaito"

Written by Pekka N. again, togeter with Tero's Finnish coaches and Janne Salmi (woc winner, current coach of team Finland) and
Petri Laaksonen.
