I am in Australia for the 'East Coast Tour' leading to the World Master Games.
Knowing I was coming to a part of the world where compass needles tilted on a different slant from those in North America I ordered and received a nice thumb compass from an Australian company. Not knowing that Queensland terrain was hard terrain two km in to my first race I fell and smashed my new $80 compass. After some intitial thrashing about I was able to complete the course and borrow a replacement (thanks Rob Rapkins) for Day 2 in QLD.
I had hoped to get a second compass from my original supplier but due to a couple of communication mix-ups that does not seem as if it is going to happen.
I know it is short notice but is there any atttackpointer out there who will be at the events in Bendigo, etc who would have and be able to lend me an extra southern hemisphere compass. It need not be a thumb compass. It just needs to balance correctly.
If you can be so kind we will be staying at the Lakeside Resort in Bendigo (under the name Plouffe-Hunter) or can be reached through a message at the event registration or by e-mail: gordhun at rogers dot com
With thanks in advance and fully expecting some witty Aussie comments about keeping my feet under me when I move through the terrain.

Hi gord...welcome to Oz.

Sounds like you might be a risky proposition to lend a compass to.

If you are having trouble and nobody else offers then ask for Geoff Peel from Newcastle Club and I'll try and fix you up somehow (beg borrow steal).

mind you I've lost my thumb compass and haven't found it yet so I'm pretty bad as well.

that rob rapkins and his missus are very nice people!

Gord, I have some southern hem. loaner thumb compasses from USOF junior team and can help you out in Sydney. Didn't see your name on the Canberra 2 days however which is where I will be.

Gord, I was looking out for you last weekend, expected to see you peering at the M60 results. The weather was probably against us. I have a 6 Spectra right hand if that is any use. I won't be at the midweek events, but will be at the Sprint in Benalla. My start time is 2.16, but if you miss me there, I will be around the results area when you finish.

Simmo,
Thank you very much for the offer. No I didn't hang around the results too much. The weather way way too Canadian for my liking. It is getting better now.
Thanks for the offer. BP above will be able to loan me a compass once we arrive in Canberra and in the meantime Liz Bourne (QLD) has come through with another loaner. I have also purchased a 'cheapy' to carry just in case I fall and break another compass. So far two more falls; no broken compass but one hell of a sore toe!!
How do those small loose boulders appear AFTER I have hit them!
