Hanny, Simone, Minna and Ann-Margaret Hausken all drawn in Heat C!

The other heats are comparatively weak, so Kathryn and Shannon have a great chance to qualify.

When it comes to heat strength for qualifying what happens at the front end doesn't matter so much as you'd expect the other Swiss/Finns/Norwegians to qualify too. More important are the countries with only one or two decent runners - if all of them end up in the same heat it becomes a difficult one.

I know in my qualifying race days I didn't care which Scandinavians or Swiss were in my heat as I assumed whichever ones were there were going to beat me; I was more concerned about the central/eastern Europeans, the British and so on.

I agree. She's going to need a lot of luck to get through from there.

Shannon is gone, Hanny is all but gone, and Kathryn hasn't made a great start either. Not a brilliant day for Australia so far :-(

Cos Khramov is Russian, and the country of the defending Champ gets 4 places, as long as the defending champ is in there team

The qualification of all three Chinese women really is a good thing for orienteering. They didn't just scrape in, either. Nice.
