Some motion blur action from today's long. Scroll down in the set. Don't have results unfortunately, since I left early. (I ran green myself today)

I know there are some avid statisticians out there; are these our youngest WOC teams ever?
May 22, 2006 2:28 AM #

Well done everyone! I understand that there were some pretty close results (looking forward to seeing them here ...)

Definitely on the young side this time, particularly the women. Only one over 30 for the women. Only one under 30 for the men.

1991 had some youngsters too (some of us were younger then) - Michelle Kuipers helped skew the average down a bit. Not sure how much Bruce and Sharon skewed it up ...

How long have Clem, Eric and James been racing against each other? How would their results break down after all the years?

Eric Bone, COC
James Scarborough, BAOC
Clem McGrath, DVOA

Alternates: John Fredrickson, HVO, Greg Balter, DVOA, and Joe Brautigam, WCOC

Samantha Saeger, NEOC
Sandra Zurcher, UNO
Suzanne Armstrong, CSU (and SLOC)

good work Boris... for all your moaning you qualified with style!

Hehe. Boris doesn't moan, he growls :)

Good job to everyone who qualified, especially Suzanne and Hillary. Nice work, ladies!

Note that the team has the potential to be significantly younger next year - Viktoria and John both only missed by a hair ... they surely have many WOCs in their near future!

Thank Gary Thompson (AP Alias: Kirkland) for getting the results out quick. Many thanks to the US Team for accepting our invitation for trials. This was the highest-profile meet I've ever put on (and the most technical mapping). It was quite a thrill to have such an elite field running those courses. I appreciated the many kind words and also the criticisms, which were all stated in a constructive manner (even by Balter!).

And, of course, the highlight of the weekend was seeing Suzanne's strong run on day 3 to clinch a spot on the team. We'll always regard her as one of ours.

Experimented with several combinations last night and would rank the uses of the chocolate as such:

1. With vintage Port.
2. Melted with just a bit of peanut butter and poured over ice cream.
3. Straight up.
4. Melted over ice cream without the peanut butter (hardened up too much).

The IOF world ranking points have been posted.

Thanks, Vladimir, for making the WRE happen.

Anyone is welcome to add their route choices for these races in my route gadget if they want to. I only have the sprint and the blue courses, and you would have to enter splits (or a finish time) by hand.

Tundra/Desert:
Good points just about everyone! Thanks to the ladies for showing up (and finishing) en masse. Note that there were 12 ranked runners on M21, whereas only a couple years ago we were agonizing to round up 4.

I posted the few pics I got at the sprint before both of my batteries were dead. I guess I should have charged them before leaving home :(

I would really love some course reviews for ONA. I will hold this issue up a few days if needed.

Congrats to the WOC Team!

Congratulations to the 2006 WOC team! Good luck and lots of fun in Denmark!

Mårten Boström's score for the weekend would be 287.45.

Randy - can we enter Billygoat routes on your route gadget too?

Thanks to all who posted the results (both the WOC Team listing and the full results) so fast for those of us spectating at home! It was great to keep up with what was going on.
Many contratulations to all the team members, especially first-time WOC Team members Clem, Suzanne, and Hillary. You're going to have a blast. And extra-special kudos to the two winners, Mikell and Pavlina, showing us all that age is truly just a number ... if you have plenty of experience and you keep up with the training. Very inspirational!

Team Trials page updated:

http://www.wyattriley.com/Trials/2006Trials.htm

Nothing new, just the team names and scoring list on the official page.

Side question: Peter's Excel-sheet web output (for the Trials results and other Excel things Ive seen before) looks scrunched up on my IE window. Anyone else have the same problem? Also, does anyone have trouble seeing the scoring list table via the Team Trials link I posted above (I've only tested IE...) Thanks for your feedback (directly to me is fine.)
May 23, 2006 3:04 AM #
jeffw:
Peter's sheet look squished to me too, but your stuff looks okay. This is on Explorer.
May 23, 2006 3:13 AM #
PG:
I use an iMac, and mine looks ok to me, but I guess on a PC it's different. But then I'm always amazed that I manage to get anything posted on the web, as most tech stuff is way beyond me.

Anyway, glad Wyatt has got the official version up.

jjcote:
Squished in IE, but fine in Firefox (which is what I normally use).
May 23, 2006 1:15 PM #
randy:
Randy - can we enter Billygoat routes on your route gadget too?

Yes, if you skipped #10. I couldn't find a way to get arbitrary skips to work (and even #10 has that artefact), but feel free.
May 23, 2006 1:46 PM #
Jagge:
Randy, you should be able to do a course with only start and finish without any controls. You can add course with second last tool "Add courses ..."

Then RG will ask only finish time and animation speed will be average speed. Controls are already drawn on the map image, so there is rally no need to draw whole course if you don't want to have better animation.

Has the US Team page address been changed? Is Eddie not updating that site anymore? The USOF Web page links to the following: http://us-o-team.us.orienteering.org/US-O-Team/ which hasn't been updated since December. If Wyatt is now posting updates I'd appreciate having the link so I can update the USOF page!

Answers are no and correct.

Since Eddie volunteered for the US Team web page laster year, his work-work got harder (notice how he's not posting stuff here 3 times a day any more :). Plus, as this thread has already noticed, he's training enough to earn a slot for WOC, which is a part-time job in itself. The ESC (usotesc at yahoogroups . com ) is accepting applications from anyone intereseting in maintaining/updating the US Team web page, so if your interested in updating the site, or part of the site (e.g. you want to just maintain a pictures page or something), please let us know!

I maintain some ESC related info here:
http://www.wyattriley.com/Esc.htm but the link Janet posted is the main US Team page and would be a great place for updated info, and links to photos (and embedded photos) such as those posted on this thread and to the usoteam email list.

As for the readability - it sounds like IE ala Microsoft is discriminating against Peter's Mac output. It's still readable, but a little scrunched up in IE, but fine in Firefox on this PC. Maybe I should just switch to Firefox on all my machines...
