Discussion: Orienteering in Memphis?

I have a friend in Memphis who's excited to try orienteering. I checked the USOF site, and it appears that the closest clubs are pretty far away (GAOC in Georgia and VOC in Alabama).

∗ Does anyone know if there are any orienteering maps around Memphis? Maybe a permanent course or a campus map?

About 150 miles north of Memphis there are some old orienteering maps of the terrain in the Shawnee National Forest, east of Cape Girardeau, MO. I imagine they are still pretty good.

Awesome, thanks! Any idea who created those maps or how I might get copies...?

There used to be a sizable orienteering club at Southern Illinois University, not far from Shawnee. I believe they put on a US Champs on those maps one year. I'd guess there's many old-timers who have SIU maps in their files. Anyone know of some of these maps?

Yes. That was one of the maps' titles. Another was "Touch of Nature" as I recall...

KrugeroI, very nice. That song is exactly what popped into my head with the initial posting, and I enjoyed the video.
And Chitown, good to see some "old friend" map names resurfacing.

Anyone remember the X-Files episode that included that song?
