about the car blair but from looking on google earth today there's worse places in the world that you could be stuck. btw that river crossing looks nasty even on google earth - impressed you got the forester through there the first time.

Do you have separation anxiety being parted from your car? I know I would.

Surprised it showed up on Google Earth unless the photos were taken during the wet season. You might be thinking of the river about 20km out of town which is wider but shallow and presented no difficulty.

Does Google Earth have sufficient resolution to see all the rock?

As for the car, being separated from it presents less anxiety than wondering if it was going to get on the boat in the first place.

Yeh its pretty good resolution plus a few photos of the area from panoramia give you a good idea of what its like. Could see the river crossings but also a few gully crossings closer to town which look like they have water in them - sounds like thats what did the damage. Checked hidden valley on google too and that looks great - should be fun to go for a run there.
Are you going to katherine, apparently there is a 46km walking track at the gorge if you're up for a long run?

It's actually 66 (one way), probably a tad ambitious, especially in this heat (although it should have cooled off a fair bit by the weekend).

The offending crossing can be seen at:
