Sprints at Ratlum Meet Notes

There will be two sprint courses. Both are official sprint series events. The general plan is that the first sprint will have 1 minute interval starts beginning at around 1, and the second sprint will have 1 minute interval starts beginning at around 2, but there will be accommodation available for people who need other start times.

New since last year are two deer exclusion fences surrounding areas that were logged a few years ago. These are six strand electric fences. The fences will be turned off during the meet, but they should be considered uncrossable. That will mean that the smaller fenced area will be completely closed off. The larger fenced area has trails through it. Each place a trail crosses the fence there is a gate. All gates will be open. One of the courses will cross the fenced area twice, and there is no reasonable alternative to staying on the trails.

The logged areas are currently mapped as yellow with green lines, but they are growing up fast and would more reasonably be mapped as green.

Details on the courses:

Fast 2.0 k, 16 controls, 80 m. climb
Faster 2.0 k, 16 controls, 70 m. climb

Not sure about projected winning times, but I have run them in about 18 and 15 minutes respectively. I am slow, but I know where I am going.

The map scale will be 1:3750, because it was too busy looking at 1:5000.

There are a few places where you may see a control from the other course, so check codes. There is one driveway crossing. Try not to run in front of a car, and if you are driving up the driveway, try not to whack an orienteer.

Consider Rhonda?s gardens as OB!
