Discussion: Transport from O-Ringen to airport

I am trying to figure out travel arrangements for my daughter and another U.S. junior from the O-Ringen to a major airport (Stockholm or maybe Copenhagen). Time would probably be the morning of 7/25, or maybe after the last event on 7/24 - we have not yet booked flights and still have some flexibility. If anyone is driving that way and has space, please let me know. I'd also be interested to hear of information on ground transportation options from Eksjo to the airport, or if there are adults travelling from the meet to back to the U.S. who wouldn't mind "shadowing" a junior or two at least as far as the Stockholm airport.

Driving (or train) distances from Eksjö show that Copenhagen is closer and therefore also cheaper. The difference in time may be just over half an hour but if the alternative is to change planes in Copenhagen and fly into Stockholm and then go back south it would be wiser to hop off in Denmark.

Eksjö-Copenhagen 310 km
Eksjö-Stockholm 360 km

Quite often you also find better flights into Copenhagen than into Stockholm - but that depends of course on what airlines you choose.

There shouldn´t be to much of a problem to find trains to Eksjö (that has a major railway station). I don´t know about buses just now but there may be some...

Let me know if you need more information.

Hi Tim,
As bubo write it is closer to Copenhagen but I think it will be easier to get a car pooling transfer to Stockholm. The Arlanda airport is north of Stockholm so some of the clubs in Uppsala might be the right to contact. There is an Icelandair flight leaving 2.10 PM July 25 arriving JFK 7 PM for around SEK 4000 (some 500 dollars). Erik is coming home with them July 1.
Major Uppsala clubs are Linné and Thor. Boris and Kat will be familiar with these clubs and if you want I can write something in their website guestbooks. Then I can also remind Thor that they stole our map at Tiomila and made our first female team, including Sandra Z, disqualified :-)

Eksjo doesn't have a major railway station but Nassjo (20 min west) does, but there a lots of connections between the two towns. The railway company SJ, www.sj.se has discounted fares to and from Nassjo the days before and after O-Ringen. I always fly in to Copenhagen, the railway station at the Copenhagen airport is immediately outside the arrival area. Very convenient.

Thanks Sudden!
I guess that was what I should have written...
And yes, the Uppsala alternative could be worth looking into.

Thank you all! Knowing the railway site and that there's a station at the "Kobenhavn Lufthavn" is very helpful - I can see possibilities. Per, I will contact you directly if we want to try the 'Uppsala alternative'. Sounds like you want a reason to communicate with Thor!

Tim,
If they choose the Copenhagen way they take a bus from Eksjö to Nässjö. A train from Nässjö to Malmö. Another train from Malmö to Copenhagen Airport. I agree that's the smartest way and I'm sure your girls are going to make it. But if you want shadows all the way to the airport, I think you should try to get in contact with someone passing Stockholm/Arlanda on their way home. Though my experience is that people do not decide when they are travelling home from O-ringen as early as in the beginning of May. Good luck and you have my mail if you want help.

There is a train station at the Copenhagen Airport with train connections to Malmö in Sweden. Three trains every hour.
Timetables are here: http://www.oresundstag.se/en/Start/
From Malmö you take another train to Nässjö. Two hours journey with high speed train (x2000). Timetables are here: http://www.sj.se/sj/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=10&l=en
From Nässjö you take either bus or train to Eksjö (Oringen centre). Ask at the station which alternative is the fastest, it is just a short trip.

Some trains go directly from Copenhagen airport (Kastrup) to Nässjö. Just have a look at www.sj.se and search for for connections between "Köbenhavns Lufthavn/Kastrup" and "Nässjö".
Try to book as early as possible since ticket prices increase with increasing popularity.
Try both with and without the promotion code "O-Ringen" in the promotion field, sometimes it (strangely enough) is cheaper without the promotion.
