FYI - For those of you in the southern New England area, the segment that was filmed at WCOC's Crandall's Meet back in March is scheduled to air this Thursday evening at 8pm on
CPTV (channel 24)
Will the J-man get prime camera time in his own 'home-town'? Will the Saeger clan (Rosstopher included) make the final edit? I haven't seen it yet either, so time will tell. The segment is produced by a seasoned sports broadcaster, so hopefully it will do justice to orienteering as a sport....
I think Hill and I spent most of the time hiding from the cameramen...
Be sure to post a link to it if it ends up on the TV station's website!
If not I'll check with the producer for permission to post a copy (youtube or elsewhere)
Please tell me why it's a good idea to have the two of the top female Orienteers in North America hiding from TV cameras when a seasoned sports broadcaster actually takes the time to show up at an event?
Because there were plenty of us ugly old guys around to keep the cameras occupied?
Clint - Nice job. One of the better O pieces. Let's make sure it gets on you-tube.
I just watched it, Hillary was in it but not Sam. Then there was Ross, Erik, Peter, me and a bunch others.
So they just picked all the good-looking ones. Typical.... :-)
I'm pretty sure there was a shot of Sam punching just ahead of Erik and then running off into the forest. Also Jeff & Judy, Phil, Clem, Charlie, Lynne, Peter Grollman, Gail and Rich Nieptupski. I think I saw J-J's duct taped shoes at one point too...
I think they did a decent job of making it look fun, which I think is important in changing peoples misconceptions about the sport.
I had a couple people tape it for me (we don't have cable, just crappy analog OTA signal). when I get a chance I'll convert it to digital and get it posted up...
So they just picked all the good-looking ones. Typical.... :-)
Yup, Gail made the cut.... but so did Phil - go figure... :-)
They've posted it up on the
CPTV website. Enjoy....
Nice! This is really well done.
very nice video. i'd like to see a little more emphasis on the fact that the sport can be done at any pace, at any age, with kids, in groups, etc. i think that's the way to get newbies initially involved.
Actually, I was thinking they should have shown more crazy-fast running in the woods. Most of these tv stories are just what you describe - usually with the family dog. Its nice to see the higher end promoted a bit. We need more HTFU, tear-it-up blood and guts promotion in this sport to get over the boy scout bearing and pace impression that the GP has.
It would be great to have this video on WCOC web site
This is a really solid video.
Clint did a great job describing the sport, especially leading off with "First and foremost it is a running sport." Awesome.
