Long strong strokes are good so long as you are exiting the water at around hip level and therefore not forcing water into the hull and therefore slowing yourself......
But hey I'm no expert.......

I was working on my rotation today but I think I do go a bit past the hips so I will pay more attention to that next paddle. I certainly can't afford to be slowing myself down when paddling next to... not to far behind... on the same river as the speedy canary yellow
