Following an extensive search, I am very pleased to announce that Glen Schorr, the Marketing and Branding Managing Director for US Lacrosse, has accepted the position of USOF Executive Director as of April 15.

Glen was the unanimous choice of not only the five members of the USOF Hiring Committee, but also those on the USOF Executive Committee who interviewed him (which included me). While Glen's history with orienteering goes all the way back to his days as an Eagle Scout, and he's run a marathon faster than I ever have, what comes across to all who meet him is his enthusiasm for using his professional skills on behalf of the US orienteering community, coupled with an impressive record of achievement.

Glen brings to USOF over 25 years of non-profit and for-profit knowledge. During his time at US Lacrosse, Glen helped grow membership +80% to almost 300,000 members in five years. Glen also helped grow participation in the sport +60% to 1.6 million participants. At US Lacrosse, Glen served on their Board of Directors and Executive team, and managed the chapter relations, communications, financial development, marketing, membership, retail marketing and sponsorship functions. Glen lead the US Lacrosse sponsorship team in securing $3 million in sponsorship funding and in-kind donations, and generated and managed approximately $150,000 annually in endemic sponsorships for related events and programs.

Prior to joining US Lacrosse, Glen spent extensive time in the private sector, highlighted by experience as Vice President, Group Account Director for GKV Communications and Group Marketing Communications Manager for Black & Decker. He is a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Glen, his wife Isabelle, and their three sons live near Baltimore, MD.

Glen is looking forward to taking on this active role within the US orienteering community and serving it to the best of his abilities, and he is clearly interested in meeting and hearing from many of you. Glen will be attending the upcoming QOC A-Meet (March 27-29) even before he has officially started, and will look forward to meeting participants at that meet. He will also be attending several other A-Meets this Spring and Summer.

Our former Executive Director, Robin Shannonhouse, will continue as "Administrative Support" to handle accounting and membership matters.

On behalf of the USOF Board of Directors, our many volunteers, and the whole orienteering community, please welcome Glen and help USOF and our member clubs reach a new level of success!

Wow. This is an impressive resume that fits our needs to a T. Many thanks to the voluntters on the Hiring Committee and to all who made this hire possible. I am looking forward to concrete results that would be as fruitful for USOF as these cited.

I agree: from what Clare posted this looks to be an excellent choice. Good luck to the new ED.

The USOF website is down at the moment (and has been all afternoon). There's a photo of the new E.D. there.

Hope it's restored by tomorrow! And best wishes to the new Director.

I do not believe he is. I think his next event is the Buffalo A meet. I think...

I vaguely recall him saying so at the QOC meet, but I'm not 100% sure.

[edit: ut oh, contradictory answers... I'm probably wrong.]

Speaking of information, with the help of other USOF members (glennon in particular), Glen Schorr's contact information is now on the USOF site, Who We Are page.

USOF really is a very cooperative organization! And AP's not bad, either. :-)

To all,

Sorry I was not able to attend this past weekend's CSU meet. The next meet I will be attending is the Buffalo, NY meet in mid-May. I will be at packet pickup on Friday, will compete with my son Jack on Saturday morning, and will be hanging around Saturday afternoon during the sprint and the BBQ. Need to head home that night.

Regarding my future schedule, I am still working that out and will post as soon as possible.

If you need to reach me, don't hesitate. My email is glen_schorr@usorienteer.org or call me at 410.802.1125.

I hope that all are having a great spring season and I hope to see you in Buffalo.

Sincerely,
Glen

Yes, welcome Glen...to Orienteering, and Attack Point.

I'd like to invite you to post your impressions, hopes, plans and priorities from time to time on your handy A/P Training Log. Perhaps a sort of Executive Director's Blog?

Because I've got to admit, I'm unable to decipher your assignment, at least as it is stated on the USOF website...it kinda sounds at tho it has been written for Superman:

...In this position, Glen will have ultimate responsibility for strategic planning, day-to-day operations, overall financial health of the organization, staff management, education programs, and public relations. He will lead the organization?s relationships with sponsors, supporters, and key government agencies....
