Orienteering Coach/Junior Programme Co-ordinator Job

This spring, Golden Horseshoe Orienteering (GHO) is undertaking an
approximately two month pilot project to expanding its school and
training program and is currently looking for an individual
who, together with GHO officials, will lead and co-ordinate this
project. The job will involve visiting schools, planning and
organizing orienteering exercises, planning and organizing permanent
courses, and assisting at weekly GHO training and GHO
weekend events.

We will look favourably at applications from individuals with mapping
experience. We would like the successful candidate to start in April, but exact start dates can be discussed. The job term
is approximately two months. Salary offered is $15/hour, and we expect successful candidate to work 40h/week. If you
are interested or have any questions, please contact the President of GHO, Hans Fransson at prez@dontgetlost.ca

This job is ideally suited for a University student that is looking for gaining experience working with youth, having the opportunity to do excellent training in Hamilton and still have the main summer months open to travel to races and training in Europe.

Golden Horseshoe Orienteering is as a not-for-profit incorporated
volunteer organization that for over the last 40 years has been
greatly involved in many communities of the Golden Horseshoe each year by assisting in trail map development and school programs.

Deadline for applications is April 1st (email hans dot fransson at cogeco dot ca). Our preferred start date is April 15th but as stated we are flexible. The job can also be shared by two individuals. The Hamilton Schools orienteering race that attracts ~1000 participants will be April 29th and working with students and teachers prior to this race is a priority for this position.

Yes our schools event is a big race and I think is entering it's 33rd or so annual running. While student participation has grown greatly recently we have had no success getting these kids to participate in other orienteering races even though they really enjoy the race.
