...your autumn challenge? Best to let everyone know up front, surely.

Good luck with the plan. Your description of your situation brought back a lot of memories...it's all worth it in the end though. Honest.

It's the Great Wilderness Challenge, which has a fair few orienteering names amongst its rich alumni! Looks really good, slightly under marathon distance but in the wilds of the North. Going to raise some money in memory of Brooner's Dad.

Lairig Ghru seems a bit much for June, but I might change my mind! Will definitely be doing what I can to support the old nutcase, though if last Sunday is anything to go by that might amount to making the mashed potato...

I think I might be up for the Great Wilderness Challenge too. I am mulling it over!

I think it looks like a lot more fun than a marathon!

The GWC is a great event and the scenery is awesome. I've done the 13 mile run a few times (a long time ago now) and loved it. Would like to do the 25 mile route one day.

more fun, more scenic, but equally painful if you make a race of it -
I do recall being quite stunned - by the pain experienced when I stood up after being sat on a bench by the finish in Poolewe for 10 minutes. I had been running 10 minutes before, now I couldn't move. Mind over body is a powerful thing.
Of course there is no need to make a race of it

Exactly! Though I probably will :)
