Does anyone have recommendations for hotels nearby the West Point A Meet. We haven't been up there before. Thanks.

Who needs a hotel, when you can do it up barracks style?

The Days Inn in Newburgh is pricier, but nicer than the ABI. Continental breakfast included; we've seen other orienteers there when we stay there for West Point.

Might be a bit further south than what you want, but we lucked into a family owned gem and have stayed at Tuxedo Motel 2-3 times - excellent rates. On 17, just off southwest corner of Harriman.

Tuxedo Motel, Route 17, Southfields, NY 10975, (845-351-4747)

My first time at West Point, I slept in my two-seater sports car on Friday night (because I arrived late), then switched to the barracks for Saturday night. The first night was one of the most uncomfortable experiences in my life. The second night convinced me to buy a bigger car.

Thanks for the suggestions. I made a res. at ABI. They have renovated so I think it will now be 5 star. Also, I was able to reserve the "Peter Gagarin" room and hope that some positive O vibes sink in while we sleep.

Be sure to give the desk clerk a hassle about the jar of hard candy.

I believe it was last year that she was so pleased to see me because she had made sure they had a good supply of candy, to make up for the year before when they had been out. Strange the impressions one leaves on people....

Of course I have a new requirement these days, internet access.
