GHO has several Park maps in OCAD 8 that we want to convert to the ISSOM 2003 sprint map standards. What is the easiest way to do this?
By hand with additional field survey. You can use one of the OCAD features to replace one symbol with another (like buildings and parking places, for example). I don't think there is another way around.
Glad to hear you guys are doing this. We are excited about our new downtown map and I am looking at another sprint area right now. Also looking forward to taking in the sprint race at BC Champs in Sept. Kudos to them for putting it on. The article on elite opinions about sprint that Sergey posted on the above thread is really interesting. In particular what they say about terrain and course setting. I think this is good info to keep in mind as we have more and more sprint events (and we now have a Canadian Sprint Champs starting in 2006). Course setters and meet organizers take note! An interesting read!
I have just completed the update and the convertion to the ISSOM of the map for the sprint at BC champs. I did it just the way Sergey is describing. I also had new, much better quality, photos for the additional field work. Mapping city parks with ISSOM makes total sense. The size of the symbols are just right and fit perfectly to the real objects. And the resulting map looks so much better. I have made a poster size version that we're going to display before the race at the start.
