Way to stay ahead of the "young folks"! I was alternating the lead with a couple of guys who were working together until the end of Misery - somehow managed to lose them on Joy... :-) Sprinting across the parking lot to the safety control may have had something to do with it... hehe

My glutes are feeling the hills today, so maybe I worked a little harder than I had thought - just didn't really get the HR up too often.

Tyler - I'd like to get in as much navigation practise as possible - are you planning on using mass starts? Also - if the temps stay warm as projected, and the rain holds off my nephews may be interested in the yellow course (with me as the guide since they're 8 and under)... guess I'm mostly curious how the starts are planned. Thanks!

It's a normal interval start setup - someone goes every two minutes. Starts are from 10 to 1 like usual. I suppose since there's just the one course if it gets crowded people can go every minute. But there's a whole, whole lot of different orders to take these controls and it's designed so that even the fastest person will just not be able to get them all in the time limit. The time limit is still being considered - something between 60 and 90 minutes. So you should be on your own and get lots of navigation practice.

By the way - the best practice for navigation is to volunteer to help pickup controls. I know you picked up some at French Creek, but those were on a beginner course. Volunteer to pick up advanced controls - that's when I saw one of my first big jumps in ability.

Thought you might be fishing for help - and a look at the dvoa website confirms it... :-) Depending upon the weather (which none of the forecasters seem to be able to agree on) my weekend training schedule is up in the air - HAVE to get in a 35 mile bike ride preferably outside. Will help if I can.. By the way - what happens to the e-punch stuff if there is lightning in the area?

I actually wasn't fishing when I wrote that - picking up at this event won't do much for navigation since there's nowhere in the park that's more than 100 meters or so from a trail or road. Picking up controls on say a blue course you didn't do at French Creek is more what I had in mind.

I was just teasing (hope you caught that) - now the weather forecast for the weekend is looking good again! Hope so - the nephews are looking forward to another adventure in the woods!
