Great event. Great weather too...

question: I noticed control 9 was not on the map. Why is that? it was also water stop, only reason I found it is because I was following someone ahead of me. Maybe I missed something at the chalk-talk before start...

I liked the idea of having the two controls 228 and 208 pretty close. The two control numbers are pretty similar, and almost got me to punch the wrong one...

btw, I thought we from Pittsburgh were going to be the longest mileage drivers to attend (195 mi), but then I realized the prize goes to Andy (HVO) that lives off Harriman SP (> 200 mi).

Those blueberry bushes, 8" high, wow, they really drag down the footwork... talking about friction...

There was no #9 because the course went from #8 into the EFGHI window (see Sandy's loop 1 map here), and then from there to the map exchange, and from the map exchange into yet another window. The next numbered control (after #8) was #18, after the JKLM window.

I think the distance prize officially goes to Gord Hunter of Ottawa, Canada. This is the second time he's come to one of our events near King's Gap. Will have to make him an honorary SVO member! I think the timing just worked out so it was on his way from elsewhere. Really glad you guys made the long day-trip from Pittsburgh!

Has this discussion got lost? It seems to have found its way into a local RMOC event.

after reading your reply, I went checking the map, and still could not figure out what I was thinking, and carefully remembered my trail and only after recovering the control card and looking at the hole punches, figured out what happened:

while on short, going from 7 to 8 on the downhill stretch, found a control (it was 228, part of Long) and punched box 8, then saw a runner in the woods and followed him, and saw another control not far (it was 208, part of Short) and punched box 9 without much thinking. Then, a minute later, while looking at the map, noticed that there was no control 9 and at that moment thought that maybe the drawer forgot to draw it on the map, and kept going for the EFGHI window. E was the last control I visited in that window, at which point I said out loud "how come I have E already punched?", at which someone (i think it was Angelica) replied "punch it again, you might still get credit" or something like that. Funny how it took me a couple of days to figure this one out... evidence was box 28 and box 9 having the same hole punches.

when adding a new post, attackpoint website by default selects the first item in the location dropdown listbox, and once created, doesn't seem to be editable. Should instead select something like "select one" and then have validation forcing user to select a location. just my two cents on human factors usability design.

There's a prize for coming the longest distance? The prize was being able to run/ stumble in such beautiful forest.
I also had my first encounter with a tick which I found embedded in my stomach while taking a bath that afternoon. He/she probably jumped on when I face planted after one of my feet contacted a small hard object hidden under some leaves. Now the wait to see whether I'll be needing some antibiotics.
Thanks to all the clubs that keep their information current on the Internet I was able to find my way to SVO and DVOA meets on consecutive days while on our way home from golfing in Virginia.
PS There was quite a gang of us who mis-punched at 228 before stumbling on to 208 fortunately on the way to the EFGHI box.
