The Badger O CLub web site says,
Badger Club to Host U.S. Orienteering Championships in 2009
The Badger Orienteering Club put in a bid to host a 1 day U.S. Orienteering Championships in 2009 and that bid was approved by the USOF Board of Directors at the 2008 U.S. Championships in Wyoming. The event is being planned for October 25, 2009. We will also have a middle distance race on Friday afternoon/evening October 24th and a 1 day classic event on October 26th. The event will be held in the northern kettle moraine state forest near Greenbush, WI.
However, my calendar shows that Friday is 10/23, not the 24th, and the other events presumably are all one day ahead. It seems like the event dates should be Oct 23, 24 and 25. The USOF website also has the dates that Badger has posted.
Also, is this just going to be an isolated one day Championship, and the other days B meets, or are they going to be A meets also?
My latest impression via Kevin T (about a month ago), was that Saturday would be the 1-day US Champs and that Sunday would be an A-day with Friday's role & venue still up in the air/fllexible. He's promising some excellent moraine terrain on a brand new area/map.
But please treat only as a firm rumor - I'm not aware of Kevin being on AP. Charlie S or Clark might know more.
As far as I am aware, the last that sanctioning heard about this, the latest plans are that Friday should be `a middle distance race that people can use like a model event', and not an A meet day, Saturday is the one-day US champs (sanctioned and bid-approved), and Sunday may be intended to be an A meet day but certainly has not been sanctioned yet (pending provision of additional information by the club, at the least).
I talked with Kevin about this a month ago. His intent at the time was for Friday model, Saturday champs, Sunday A (but not champs). I can't speak to what he has done in terms of the actual sanctioning process.
