Discussion: 2008 Sprint Series Wraps Up

Cristina:
The 2008 Sprint Series Finals took place this past Friday in conjunction with the North American Championships, hosted by Central New York Orienteering. The short preliminary race was worth a massive 100 points, and the longer final was good for a winner-take-all 50-pt bonus. See the sprint final results.

In the end Samantha Saeger pulled ahead of Emily Kemp (still a junior!) to take the women's title by only 2 points. For the men, Mike Smith topped the field and was the only dude to break 18 minutes on the 3.5km final course.

Truly official standings and results will be up shortly, but we can certainly reveal the top five male and female sprinters of 2008 right now:

Women:
1. Samantha Saeger
2. Emily Kemp
3. Katarina Smith
4. Hillary Saeger
5. Cristina Luis

Men:
1. Mike Smith
2. Patrick Goeres
3. Jon Torrance
4. Ross Smith
5. Eric Bone

The Sprint Series will return for 2009, so it's not too late to change your name to Smith and give it your best shot. Next year there might be some changes, there might be stuff that doesn't change, but you can bet that there will be people sprinting and there will be someone tallying those results. Start planning your sprints now!

Thank you Christina! Was wondering how i did in the end. Shame i messed up 18 or would have a had a pretty good time =/
Question though what is the x next to my name mean?

Cristina:
The x is for those who 'officially' ran course 2 for the NAOC (those results will be on the CNYO page and are up in WinSplits) but ran the third loop for the Sprint Series.

An error on my end - Donna Terefenko shouldn't be on the list, but Svobodny Tom 58 M50+ MVOC 0:23:16
should have been.

Someone has too much time on their hands and for once it's not me.

An audit of the 2008 results has revealed that I made an error in the original posting of the final standings. I inadvertently left Jon Torrance out of the results - has was third in the Series. I've corrected the original post and received a diluvial punishment.

I'll also use this space to mention that there will be a 2009 Sprint Series. More information to come soon, but we will start the season on Jan 1, so start planning your sprints now!

Christina, I don't see the final standings posted - unless I'm looking in the wrong spot. The link on the site shows the overall standings just prior to the finals, and your link above shows the results of the finals race itself. I was just wondering if there was going to be a final 'standings' list with the finals races factored in.
