| paul c: | Unfortunately I can't seem to copy the address so bear with me.
www.beginnertriathlete.com/cms/article-detail.asp Scroll down to "training" and click on "strenght training exercises".Then scroll down again to the article dated 2005-05-03. Its called "Hard core - exercises to strengthen your abs for better performance". I find these are the nuts. Let me know if you can or can't find the link. |

| Loopy Lou: | Paul - that does look evil! Good to know my work gym instructor actually knows his stuff though. I've done all of those bar no.6. I also do back raises I think they are called. Certainly strenghtens the lower back. When I started doing proper core stuff last summer, I ached and ached, but Tim.... it's worth it! |

| AlanH: | Those look good, but a few tweaks straight out of the slalom coaches book for when they get too easy: Do crunches with arms crossed over a weight (5kg prob enough for mortals, top paddlers do 20+). Push-ups with thighs resting on a swiss ball. Walk the pushups over a step so push up with L hand on the step, R hand on the floor, then move R hand to step then L hand to floor, drop, push up, repeat. Combine with swiss ball for extra tough. Do crunches from this position on a swiss ball as well with ball under shins, i.e. hold arms in up part of push up position then bring knees to chest rolling the ball. The other great ball one is sit on the floor holding the ball (football will do) and throw the ball with straight arms 90 degrees to L then R (helps to have an assistant to retrieve it between reps...). Alternatively just do canoe slalom then you'll find most runner's core exercises really easy. |

| KingTim: | Is all that what a one-legged hippo does as a daily routine then? |

| MikeS: | We do most of those in Rach's circuits session on a Monday. They are tough but get easier as the weeks go on. I'm not going to be able to go anymore so I'm going to have to do them on my own....even harder!! |

| AlanH: | The one-legged hippo used have 2 arms and 2 legs and wasn't so much of a hippo. He did said routine once a week through the winter until he lost an arm. At this point all paddling and paddling core work stopped and to avoid becoming a hippo started running again instead. At this point he lost a leg, and shortly afterwards started to gain hippo status. |

| schnitzer: | Fancy not being a one-legged hippo and running either the 1st or 2nd leg in our Jukola team next year? |

| AlanH: | No running until October 1st at least so we'll see how it goes from there. Does sound good though, was just thinking today how I should do a Jukola or Tio or both before I get to old and/or injured. M35 next year, scary... |
