Swampfox:
I found this report tonight from Sweden, lightly edited (re: enhanced), which may be of interest to select Attack Pointers. And let's face it: everyone at Attack Point is select in some way. It's just that some are more select than others. Anyway:

"The classic orienteering relay 10-Mila will make history in 2006. The entire Men's race will be shown live on the TV channel SPORT-Expressen.

With the start at 11pm on Saturday evening and the finish at 9am on Sunday morning, the presentation will be over 10 hours long with no breaks planned. It means this 10-Mila TV production will be the longest live broadcast of any single sport ever on Swedish TV.

"That 10-Mila and orienteering can make TV history feels incredibly inspiring. We'll do everything we can to show that 10 hours of orienteering--much of it during full night darkness--can be excellent TV," said Gunnar Nuberg, a 10-Mila representative.

In order to show the runners' progess through the night, there will be several TV controls on every leg, and additionally the best teams will be wearing GPS transponders which cna be followed in real time. Weaker teams, on the other hand, might possibly be plagued by hungry, snarling Attack Badgers lurking in the vicinity of special specatator controls, and some of the slowest runners could even be devoured so that the competition doesn't drag out too much, as well as to boost TV ratings.

"We think 10-Mila will at last again be more exciting than Jukola; the Attack Badger is an important innovation, much better than a Jumbotron or sauna," said a spokestroll who requested that his name be withheld. "And ratings do matter."

10-Mila will become a trailblazing path in a big gamble on Swedish sport in general and classic Swedish events in particular, on the young TV channel SPORT-Expressen.

"We're quite willing to take the chance on this and are very happy to offer what will be the longest live broadcast ever," said Ulric Svensson, editorial chief for SPORT-Expressen.

The unnamed sportstroll pointed out that, "One of the best things about Attack Badgers is that they're willing to work almost for nothing, and we know that nothing sends them into a true hissing fury like the sight of a Finnish or Norwegian club uniform, such as Halden, for sure."

Filmhouse in Skoevde is the production company which will head up the elephant sized project, and together with Per Forsberg, who will anchor the broadcast, the work to get everything together in the forest south of Hallsberg is already underway.

10-Mila 2006 will take place on 29-30 April in Aasbro south of Hallsberg."

Hallsberg - site of the rainiest O-ringen ever. I bet the streets are still damp 5 years later.

To add to the pre-Tiomila hype, note that the organizers have yet to post course lengths even though course planning is more or less complete. It seems this is because course lengths this year will be of record length. Very fast terrain will require the longer courses to meet the expected winning times. Should be fun.

There are approximate leg lengths up on the website, in the invitation at http://www.10mila.se/2006/index.asp?page=104&avd=3...
